Veliki Burdin kuvar

Veliki Burdin kuvar

"The Great Burdin's Cookbook" is the iconic translation of the monumental German cookbook from the 1970s, compiled by a team of authors led by Uta Meyer. The Serbian edition was prepared and translated by Ljiljana Vranić, with adaptations for the domestic

The book has over 500 pages and 500 recipes – from classic European cuisine to West German cuisine to international dishes. It is particularly appreciated for its systematicity: the chapters are classified by ingredients (meat, fish, vegetables, pasta, cakes, etc.), and each recipe has exact weights, step-by-step instructions, preparation time and number of people.

The most famous parts:

  • detailed tables for roasting meat and conversion of measurements
  • a large selection of cakes and tarts (Black Forest, Sacher, Linz)
  • basic fondues, sauces and techniques that were then new in Yugoslavia
  • over 450 color photographs of dishes

For generations of housewives in the 1980s and 1990s, this book was a “kitchen bible” – expensive, but worth every penny. Many received it as a wedding gift and still use it. It is still sought after in second-hand bookshops today because the recipes are proven, precise and “always work”. A true culinary heritage of a time.
