Drevni tragovi: Tajne drevne povijesti i pretpovijesti

Michael Baigent

In the book Ancient Traces, New Zealand author Michael Baigent (co-author of the bestseller Holy Blood, Holy Grail) presents the provocative thesis that the official history of humanity is incomplete and that there is a hidden, much older layer of civiliz

Baigent surveys global myths (Sumerian, Egyptian, Indian, Mayan, Aboriginal) and notes striking similarities in stories of a “golden age,” a great flood, and “gods” who brought knowledge. He argues that these stories are not mere legends, but distorted memories of a real, advanced prehistoric culture that disappeared 12,000–15,000 years ago.

The book provides examples of “impossible” artifacts and structures: the precisely machined stone blocks at Puma Punku (Bolivia), underwater structures at Yonaguni (Japan), and the Piri Reis and Oronteus Finaeus maps showing an ice-free Antarctica. The author links these to the possibility that a global maritime civilization existed before the last ice age.

While Baigent does not offer definitive proof, his approach is broad, well-documented, and avoids New Age sensationalism. The book calls for a reconsideration of the boundaries of human history and remains one of the most influential surveys of “forbidden archaeology” of the late 20th century.
