Princ Humorabi od Plusopotamije

Princ Humorabi od Plusopotamije

Ivan Balenović

A novel for children and young adults, written in the spirit of a fantastic epic and fairy tale with elements of humor, satire, and wisdom. The work was originally published in Serbian in 1992, and later translated and published in Croatian.

The story follows Humorabi's adventures after evil forces (dark rulers, evil wizards or tyrants) steal the precious winged window from the people - a symbol of freedom, imagination, light and joy. Without the window, Plusopotamia sinks into gray hopelessness and darkness. Humorabi sets off on a long journey around the world (by land, sea, through wondrous lands) to get it back. On the way, he meets a variety of characters: cheerful Hahanans, wise old men, animals, monsters, but also helpers who join him. Each episode brings new adventures, funny situations, small victories of humor over evil and lessons about friendship, courage and the importance of joy.

The novel combines elements of a classic fairy tale (treasure hunt/symbol), an adventure novel and a satirical parable. The humor is gentle, warm, often situational and linguistic - a play on words, exaggerations, absurdities. The author subtly criticizes tyranny, fear and heartlessness, promoting laughter as a universal force of good and healing.

The style is lively, rich in descriptions, dialogues and folkloric-fairytale motifs, with an emphasis on optimism and a child's perspective. The book has become a cult favorite among readers in the region, especially for its message that laughter can change the world.

This is an epic about the power of humor and joy in the fight against darkness - ideal for young readers, but also adults who love clever entertainment.
