On the Fields by Mila Miholjević belongs to the literature that uses simple means to create a powerful image of the rural world and man's place in it. The work is based on depictions of everyday life related to work on the land, from early mornings to harvest evenings, where the rhythm of human life merges with the rhythm of nature. Miholjević hides a layered emotion under the surface of simple sentences: the relationship to the land is not only an economic necessity, but also a source of identity, security and quiet spiritual joy.

The characters move in the modest but lively space of the village - women, peasants, children hardened by work, old people who remember "better" and "harder" times. The author shows how solidarity, perseverance and a sense of common destiny are born in hard work. The motif of sacrifice and pride is strongly present in the text: work is not romantic, but it is valuable because in it people find meaning and their own value.
