The book is an adventure-travel work based on the real experiences of a famous Czech explorer, botanist, and traveler who explored South America in the early 20th century.
The book follows the author's adventures among the Indian tribes of South America, especially in the areas of Paraguay, Brazil and the Amazon region. The titular "tall hunter" refers to a strong and skilled indigenous hunter who symbolizes man's connection with nature and traditional way of life. Due to its exotic themes and exciting events, it was very popular among younger readers and fans of adventure literature.
