Povijest talijanske književnosti – Prvi dio: Starije doba (500–1600)

Vinko Lozovina

The first systematic Croatian history of Italian literature from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Vinko Lozovina, a distinguished professor and Italian scholar, systematically covers the period from the early Middle Ages to the end of the 16th century.

The book takes the reader through the rich and diverse Italian literary heritage: from the first texts in the vernacular, through the greats of the Trecento — Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio — to humanism, the High Renaissance and authors such as Ariosto, Machiavelli and Tasso. Lozovina skillfully shows how Italian literature developed in contact with antiquity, Christianity, Provençal poetry and new Renaissance ideas.

The work is written in a clear and readable language, with an emphasis on the literary and historical context, main currents and influences. It is intended primarily for high school students and students, but also for anyone who wants a more serious insight into Italian literature.

This book represents an important step in Croatian culture at the beginning of the 20th century — a time when the Croatian intelligentsia was intensively turning to European literary traditions, and Italian culture had a particularly strong influence in Dalmatia and the coastal regions.

Today, this is a respected antiquarian edition that will appeal to lovers of literary history, Italian scholars, professors, and collectors of older Croatian professional literature. The book comes in its original binding of its time.
