Povijest novoga vijeka 1870.-1918.

Ivan Stepanovič Galkin, Vladimir Vladimirovič Zubov, Nikolaj Aleksandrovič Notovič, Vladimir Mihajlovič Hvostov

Croatian translation of a Soviet textbook, colored by Marxist-Leninist ideology. Covers key events from the unification of Germany to the end of World War I, with an emphasis on class struggle and imperialism.

The book analyzes a period of intense modernization and conflict. The unification of Germany (1871) under Bismarck is portrayed as a triumph of the bourgeoisie, while the colonialism of Britain and France is criticized as the exploitation of the working class and the colonies. Balkan national movements, such as the Herzegovina Uprising (1875), are interpreted as a struggle against the feudal oppression of the Ottoman Empire. The textbook emphasizes economic development (industrialization, railroads) and the rise of labor movements, especially socialism and trade unions, as a response to capitalist exploitation. The formation of alliances (the Triple Alliance, the Entente) and the arms race lead to the First World War, described as an imperialist conflict between bourgeois powers. The Russian Revolution (1917) is celebrated as the victory of the proletariat. The peace negotiations in Versailles (1918) are criticized as an attempt by the capitalist powers to preserve their dominance. The Soviet perspective emphasizes the inevitability of class conflicts and the weakening of capitalism.

The work is ideologically colored, with a focus on a Marxist interpretation of history, where events are presented through the prism of class struggle and criticism of capitalism.
