Uvođenje u filozofiju

Émile Faguet

An accessible overview of the history of philosophy in which Émile Faguet takes the reader from ancient thinkers through the Middle Ages to the modern era, explaining fundamental philosophical ideas and trends.

Introduction to Philosophy is a Serbian translation of the work Initiation philosophique by the French literary critic, essayist and member of the French Academy Émile Faguet (1847–1916), one of the most famous popularizers of humanistic thought at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally published in 1912, the work quickly gained popularity as a clear and concise introduction to the history of philosophy intended for a wide range of educated readers.

The book chronologically traces the development of philosophical thought from the oldest Greek philosophers, the sophists, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, through the Hellenistic schools, Christian and medieval philosophy, to the great thinkers of the modern age and philosophical systems of the 19th century. The author does not enter into complex expert discussions, but rather tries to concisely present the main ideas, problems and contributions of individual philosophers, enabling the reader to gain a basic orientation in the development of the Western philosophical tradition.

Faguet's style is characterized by clarity, clarity and pedagogical accessibility. Instead of a strictly academic approach, he presents philosophy as a permanent human quest for understanding the world, man and moral values. For decades, the book has served as introductory literature for pupils, students and all those interested in philosophical culture. Introduction to Philosophy is a valuable testimony to the European intellectual tradition and one of the most successful popular overviews of the history of philosophical thought from the beginning of the 20th century.
