The Fourth Scientific Congress of Slavonia and Baranja. Vol. 1, edited by Dušan Čalić and Đuro Berber, brings together a comprehensive selection of scientific papers dedicated to the natural, historical, cultural and economic heritage of Slavonia and Baranja. The proceedings bring together experts from various scientific fields and provide an interdisciplinary view of the development of eastern Croatia from prehistory to the modern era. Topics covered include archaeology, history, art history, ethnology, geography, demography, economy, urban planning, literature, linguistics, ecology, forestry and nature protection.

The authors of the contributions include Jasna Šimić, who writes about archaeological finds from the Early Iron Age and the Eneolithic, Zorko Marković about the settlement of Croats and Slavs, Kornelija Minichreiter about Bronze Age sites, Zlatko Vir about the development of Osijek settlements, Marcel Corne and Valerija Ganneschi about Benedictine abbeys, Dubravka Sokač-Štimac about research in the Požega Valley, Mirko Bulat about painting in Slavonia, Zvonko Botić and Mladen Radić about the town of Ružica, Filip Potrebica about the gymnasium movement in Požega in 1848, Nikola Kosanović about the writer Josip Kozarac, Željko Sekulić about the Osijek union calls in 1944/45, Dana Pavlica about cultural, educational and economic activities, and Gordana Golubov about Osijek's theatrical and cultural life.
