Ende in Antibes

The story begins shortly after the murder of Tom Jordache in Antibes on the French Riviera. The family comes together to deal with the loss. At the center is Tom's sixteen-year-old son Wesley, who barely knows his father. Obsessed with the desire to find out what kind of man he was and to avenge his death, Wesley embarks on a journey through America and Europe, interviewing people from his father's past.

In parallel, we follow the other members of the family: the wealthy and calculating Uncle Rudolph, Aunt Gretchen who turns to film directing, and her son Billy Abbott, an American soldier in Europe who becomes entangled in a dangerous relationship with a radical activist and terrorist circles.

Shaw masterfully weaves personal dramas, revenge, the political tensions of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and themes of inheritance, identity, and violence. The novel brings tension, sexual and political intrigue, and a family reunion in Cannes.
