Kolajna od rubina

Ivan Šarolić

Kolajna od rubina (2016) is a collection of love poetry by Ivan Šarolić. Through the motifs of love as the fundamental force of life, the poet explores joy and sorrow, and the ascent to spiritual heights.

The collection Ring of Rubies by Ivan Šarolić, published in 2016 by several institutions (the Podstrana branch of Matica hrvatska, the Association of Zagreb Poljičani, the Croatian Association Benedikt and the DHK HB Publishing House), is a poetic selection that brings together the poet's previous insights into the reality of life. The book includes poems from previous collections (Chronology, In the Land of Goethe, Green Emeralds, The Mediterranean), thematically focused on the phenomenon of love.

According to reviewers, the central theme of the collection is the need for love – "to love and be loved". Šarolić's poetry celebrates the joy of love, but does not shy away from the melancholy caused by unrequited feelings. Stylistically, the author uses a unique, prayerful tone, building an idealized world in which a woman is the center of the meaning of life, and love is a universal truth and strength. Through philosophical reflections, ambient descriptions of cities, and almost biblical diction, Šarolić leads the reader from worldly longings to the spheres of Divine love, making the collection a spiritually stimulating read.
