Triptih šokačkih uspomena

Ivan Francuz

Ivan Francuz's 2019 memory and homeland collection revives the customs, everyday life, traditional heritage and authentic spirit of Šokadija and the Osijek-Baranja region through three thematic units.

"Triptih Šokačkih uspomena" (published in 2019) is an emotional, documentary and ethnologically valuable literary and homeland work by author Ivan Francuz. The book is a moving dedication to the author's homeland, the traditional culture of the Šokači, and the forgotten images from the past of Slavonia and Baranja. Conceived in the form of a three-part structure (triptych), the book revives the authentic Šokači identity through personal memories, anecdotes and records. The first part is dedicated to the family home, childhood and closely connected family and neighborly relationships in the traditional Šokači community. The second part focuses on annual and everyday customs - from carnival, harvest festivals and kirbaji, to weddings and rituals that gave rhythm to rural life. The third part of the triptych brings a rich presentation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage: from descriptions of folk costumes, traditional crafts and gastronomy, to authentic local speech and prose imbued with characteristic Šokac humor and nostalgia. Written in a warm, narrative and linguistically authentic style, "Triptych of Šokac Memories" is an indispensable read for all lovers of Slavonian tradition, folklore and local history, and represents a valuable contribution to preserving cultural heritage from oblivion.
