The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane, an original UK 7" single released in 1967 on Parlophone, catalog number R 5570. An early UK pressing featuring matrix numbers 7XCE 18415-1 / 7XCE 18416-2, the original four-prong push-out center, and the period-correct green Parlophone "Miners Make-up" company sleeve.
This is one of the key singles in the Beatles' body of work and an important document of their transition from the classic pop/rock era toward studio experimentation and psychedelia. It was released as a double A-side on February 17, 1967, falling between the albums Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Both songs originated during the early Sgt. Pepper sessions but were set aside for release as a single.
"Strawberry Fields Forever," primarily a Lennon composition, was inspired by his childhood memories of Liverpool. George Martin's layered, psychedelic production and innovative studio processing made it one of the Beatles' most distinctive experimental recordings.
"Penny Lane," primarily a McCartney composition, also looks back to Liverpool, but through vivid scenes, places, and characters from the everyday life of his youth. Together, the songs offer two different yet complementary perspectives on Lennon and McCartney's shared Liverpool roots.
One of the Beatles' most famous singles from their psychedelic period, featuring two classic Lennon–McCartney compositions. A compelling collector's item thanks to its original UK release status, early matrix numbers, and the accompanying period-correct Parlophone sleeve. wrapper.
