Ljubav mog života

Ljubav mog života

Marie-Louise Fischer

The novel is based on true events recounted to the author by Barbara H., with the circumstances and names changed to protect her identity. The story is simply written, yet deeply moving, exploring themes of love, loss, and courage.

The story follows young Barbara, who escapes from a crowded train during an air raid during World War II. In the chaos, she meets soldier Achim, who saves her life and becomes her first great love. After just one night together, Achim has to return to the front, leaving Barbara alone and pregnant. She goes to his mother in Düsseldorf, where she gives birth to their child. Barbara faces the hardships of life during and after the war, fighting for herself and her child. Later, she becomes a successful businesswoman, but she never forgets Achim. Despite her new relationship, she breaks off the engagement when she receives news that Achim has been found in captivity. After ten years of waiting, they meet again, but Achim betrays her. The novel depicts the struggle for survival, the power of love amidst the suffering of war, and emotional challenges, ending with a hint of a happy ending.
