Dallas

Lee Reintree

Lee Raintree's "Dallas" (1978) is a novelization of the five-part TV miniseries of the same name, which introduces the powerful Ewing family in Texas. A hit upon publication, the novel depicts the eternal struggle for power in the American dream.

The Ewings, owners of the Ewing Oil Company and the Southfork Ranch, are faced with a rivalry with the Barnes family, whose roots go back to the 1930s: Jock Ewing cheated on his partner Digger Barnes and took his love, Miss Ellie Southworth.

The plot follows the elopement of Bobby Ewing (the younger son, moral and upright) and Pam Barnes (the rival's daughter), which shocks the family. J.R. Ewing (the older son, greedy and manipulative), hates the Barnes and plots against the marriage. Patriarch Jock, matriarch Miss Ellie, niece Lucy (by runaway son Gary), and ranch manager Ray Krebbs become intertwined in conflicts of power, love and revenge.
