Osmi svezak iz edicije "Povijest svijetaobrađuje se razdoblje europskog humanizma, renesanse kao i doba velikih geografskih otkrića koja su zauvijek promijenila tijek svjetske povijesti.

Humanizam, inspiriran antičkim nasljeđem, promiče obrazovanje, kritičko mišljenje i umjetnost, uz ključne figure poput Petrarce i Boccaccija. Renesansa, rođena u Italiji, donosi procvat umjetnosti (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rafael) i arhitekture (Brunelleschi), obilježene realističnim prikazima i perspektivom.

Doba otkrića pokreću pomorske ekspedicije, omogućene tehnološkim napretkom (kompas, karavela). Kolumbo otkriva Ameriku (1492.), Vasco da Gama plovi do Indije, a Magellan obilazi svijet, šireći europski utjecaj, ali i kolonijalizam. Reformacija, koju pokreće Luther (1517.), izaziva vjerske sukobe i slabljenje papinskog autoriteta. U znanosti, Kopernik revolucionira astronomiju heliocentričnim modelom.

U hrvatskom kontekstu, naglašava se kulturni doprinos pisaca poput Marka Marulića, čiji Judita označava početak hrvatske renesansne književnosti, te utjecaj Mlečana na Dalmaciju.
