Vatrene kugle: Slučaj meteorske opasnosti

Vatrene kugle: Slučaj meteorske opasnosti

Chuck Harwood

The Kinetic City Food Festival is an annual eating festival that brings thousands of people to the city, with the sole purpose of overindulging in every possible type of food.

One year, Mayor Varlay had the idea of setting an edible world record. He thought it would help bring citizens together for the common good. It also gave him a chance to give a speech to his constituents, and maybe even land on the cover of Mayors Today. I have to admit that big crowds make me a little nervous, but the Food Festival is usually a wild party.

One year, we made the biggest banana split—with thousands of bananas and truckloads of ice cream and hot chocolate. Another year, we made a giant pizza (with thick crust). This year’s challenge, in fact, would be the largest single bowl of chili the very next day. The mayor had ordered the pool in front of City Hall to be emptied for the occasion and aluminum foil placed on the bottom. Apparently, the mayor’s mom volunteered (or demanded?) to be the challenger.

“I’m sure your chili recipe is strong and all, Mama Varlay,” I said. “But that’s not what we’re here for. We’re the Kinetic City Supercrew.” “Ah, yes, I recognize you now,” she said. “You’re those kids who always help Richard when his ass is in trouble.” “Well, yeah, I guess you could say that,” Keisha replied. “Mayor Varlay calls us quite a lot.”
