Situacije i duhovna kretanja :2

Vjekoslav Mikecin

Vjekoslav Mikecin’s second book, published in 1981, presents critical analyses and essays on contemporary socio-political developments, the philosophy of Marxism, and the ideological and cultural currents of the second half of the 20th century.

The work Situations and Intellectual Currents: 2 (Situacije i duhovna kretanja: 2) by the distinguished Croatian Marxist philosopher, publicist, and translator Vjekoslav Mikecin—published in 1981 by Školska knjiga (Zagreb)—represents a continuation of the author’s systematic inquiries into contemporary philosophical and social thought. The book brings together thematically related studies, essays, and polemics produced during a period of intense social and intellectual upheaval in the then-Yugoslavia and the wider world. In this volume, Mikecin critically analyzes a variety of currents and phenomena: ranging from issues of creative Marxism and the humanist critique of dogmatism, through the reception of contemporary European philosophy (particularly from Italian and French intellectual circles), to an analysis of the role of culture and intellectuals in a socialist society. Special attention is devoted to questions of alienation, creative freedom, and the relationship between ideology and science. His approach is characterized by exceptional erudition, analytical precision, and a commitment to dialogue extending beyond narrow dogmatic frameworks. The work serves as an important document for understanding the intellectual climate and philosophical debates that defined the Yugoslav scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
