Osijek
A luxurious photomonography of the city with an introductory study by historian Ivo Mažuran and photographs by Stjepan Kes. Ivo Mažuran is a famous Croatian historian and archivist, one of the best experts on the history of Osijek and Slavonia.
The book contains a rich selection of high-quality photographs by Stjepan Kes taken from 1971 to 1978, which show Osijek in all its glory – its architecture, the Fortress, the promenade, the Drava River, industrial and residential areas, parks, cultural and sports facilities, and everyday life in the city in the second half of the 1970s.
Along with Mažuran's introductory study that provides a historical overview of the development of Osijek, the book is multilingual: the texts have been translated into German, English, French, Italian, and Russian, which was common for representative publications of that period. This is a classic city photomonography from the socialist period – simultaneously documentary, propaganda, and artistic – that depicts Osijek as a modern, well-organized, and promising city.
Today, it is sought after by collectors, historians, and Osijek enthusiasts as a valuable visual and historical record of the city in the second half of the 20th century.
