Zorislav Drempetić Hrčić

Zorislav Drempetić Hrčić

Mladenka Šolman

The monograph also provides a biographical framework, an analysis of thematic cycles, an interpretation of the artist's dominant motifs, and numerous reproductions of paintings.

Mladenka Šolman's 1989 monograph on Zorislav Drempetić Hrčić represents a systematic and analytically based study of the work of one of the most recognizable Croatian painters and artistic eccentrics of the second half of the 20th century. The book explores Hrčić's distinctive visual language, his penchant for narrative, expressive lines, freedom of color, and a distinctive iconography that combines elements of naive painting, fantastic realism, and poetic irony. Šolman traces the development of the artist's oeuvre from his early works and the formation of an authentic manuscript, through the most intense creative period marked by dynamic figurative art, humor, grotesque, and critical subtext, to mature works in which motifs are further stylized and symbolism deepens. Hrčić's ability to combine everyday life with surreal elements, while maintaining a recognizable warmth and narrative rhythm, is emphasized.
