Njena želja za višim životom, luksuzom i strašću vodi je ka vanbračnoj ljubavi i fatalnim posledicama. Flober je preciznim jezikom, minucioznošću u prikazivanju stvarnosti i nezaboravnim likovima stvorio jedan od stožera moderne svetske književnosti.
