Published in 1891, the novel is one of Henryk Sienkiewicz's most famous psychological and social works. Unlike his historical novels, this work presents an introspective and philosophical account of the decadent nobility of the 19th century.
One of the most significant works of 20th-century Russian literature, the novel follows the life of Yuri Zhivago, a physician and poet, through the dramatic events of World War I, the October Revolution, and the Russian Civil War.
The translation of this book was originally published in 1923 by the Belgrade bookseller S. B. Cvijanović, but the entire edition was confiscated and destroyed by the Germans during the Second World War.
