Brana na Pacifiku
In the book, Indochina, childhood, a poor family without a father, a self-confident girl, early passions, the arrival of a stranger in a small, remote place, the desolateness of rice fields, and much, much more await you.
You never know when it comes to Marguerite Duras: whether she is writing about herself, or about someone very similar to herself. In this way, she resembles another French classic, Marcel Proust, whose main character in all twelve sequels of “In Search of Lost Time” was called, simply, Marcel. Why should we lie to you, “The Dam on the Pacific” (1950) is not some hit released yesterday, nor is Duras an author with whom you can relax comfortably on the beach, but the intensity, passion and melancholy in her own way will best be experienced if you move your own dam in front of such an authorial “I”.
