Čudesa svetoga Ivana Kapistrana: Povijesna i tekstualna analiza

Stanko Andrić

This book deals with the miracles of a late medieval saint. The status of valuable historical sources is recognized by medieval miracle reports in recent times, but irrevocably.

The bibliography of works on miracles has grown to enormous proportions... At least three main directions can be distinguished in this ongoing research; The very definition of the term "miracle" depends on the perspective we choose. One of the basic lines of research on miracles deals with the development of the relevant theological doctrine or "theory of miracles" (as Benedicta Ward expressed it), which essentially flows from St. Augustine to St. Thomas Aquinas. The second line, represented by the majority of studies on miracles, includes careful descriptions of "miraculous" phenomena and their conglomerations based on specific sources, quantitative and morphological analysis of these reports as well as their contextualization in relation to holiness, pilgrimages, monasticism, etc. Pierre-Andre Sigal is succinctly described the core of that approach: "The study of miracles according to theoretical definitions should therefore be supplemented with the study of miracles in their everyday reality through the testimonies of those who were the subject or witnesses of miracles."
