In the first part, Knight of God, Kršnjavi depicts the life of Francis from his youth to the moment of his spiritual transformation. Francis, the son of a wealthy merchant from Assisi, grows up in abundance, but an encounter with lepers and inner turmoil prompt him to make a radical change. He renounces worldly goods and dedicates himself to a life of poverty, prayer, and service to others, thus beginning his journey toward holiness.

The second part, Orphan of God, continues the story of Francis’ spiritual maturation and the founding of the Franciscan order. Kršnjavi describes in detail Francis’s commitment to evangelical ideals, his love for nature and all of God’s creatures, and the challenges he faces within the Church and society. The novel ends with Francis’s death, leaving a powerful message about the power of faith and humility.

Through these works, Kršnjavi not only brings the figure of Saint Francis to life, but also conveys the universal values ​​of compassion, modesty, and spiritual commitment. The novels are enriched with illustrations by Mirko Rački, and their message remains relevant today, encouraging readers to reflect on their own life values.
