Proljeće u Karolinentalu
In his award-winning novel (V.B.Z. Award for the best unpublished novel in 2009), Dragan Pavelić takes the reader to Bosnia, actually to his native Sarajevo, to a period that encompasses the life span of the main character (1890 - 1964).
It is a comprehensive prose, sentimentally intoned, told in two voices, the life story of an unloved bastard, a double murderer and a Lepoglava convict - a completely exemplary husband, father and citizen, which speaks of crime and punishment, of suffering and redemption, of love and hate, of dreams and reality; of different religions and cultures, of the collision of modern and traditional, of states and ideologies.
Dragan Pavelić is a great advocate of storytelling, and his narration, which flows easily and simply, is actually layered and deeply thought out, with a multitude of well-formed characters and their relationships.
