Lukrecija Borgia – Lijepa vojvotkinja

Lukrecija Borgia – Lijepa vojvotkinja

Johannes Burcardus

The novel about Lucrezia Borgia was written according to the records of Bishop Burcardus, chamberlain of Pope Alexander VI.

The fable begins with the preparations for Lucrezia's wedding to Alfonso, a cousin of the King of Naples. The relationship between the two brothers Cesare and Don Juan Borgia is described, as well as the murder of Don Juan, the liquidation of Savonarola, then the pact with France and the murder of Alfonso. All the while, Lucrezia and her love are victims of Borgia's manipulations. Cesare, who is incestuous and jealous, declares that he will kill anyone who loves Lucrezia or whom she loves. Among the most dramatic is the scene when Lucrezia and Cesare discover that their son is alive. This fluently told story ends with Cesare's defeat and the death of the Pope, which means the disappearance of the Borgias from the historical scene.
