Almanah ilirski za godinu 1823. (Illyrian Almanac for the Year 1823) is a historically and literarily significant work by Đuro Matija Šporer, an early promoter of the Croatian language and national cultural consciousness. Originally published in 1823 in Karlovac, the almanac serves as a valuable record of the literary, cultural, and social conditions of the first half of the 19th century.
A 1990 reprint allows contemporary readers to discover this rare edition of Croatia's literary heritage. The book is further enriched by an afterword from the distinguished Croatian literary historian Ivo Frangeš, titled "Đuro Matija Šporer," which sheds light on the author's life, literary work, and place in the history of Croatian culture.
The almanac is significant for understanding the cultural and literary endeavors that preceded the Croatian National Revival. It bears witness to the development of national consciousness and literary expression, as well as efforts to preserve Croatian cultural identity.
Thanks to the reprint and Frangeš's afterword, this edition serves as a valuable resource for the study of Croatian literary history, cultural heritage, and the early period of the National Revival. It is of particular interest to historians, literary researchers, bibliophiles, and collectors of rare editions.
