Kolo, 1971/10
A Croatian Spring issue marking Marulić’s Judita anniversaries, with poetry by Vesna Parun, literary and aesthetic essays, and a newly discovered manuscript by Juraj Križanić.
Issue 10 of Kolo from 1971, edited by Igor Zidić, brings together Croatian literary heritage, contemporary poetry and reflection on art. Published during the Croatian Spring, it belongs to a cultural climate of renewed interest in national traditions and their significance for contemporary life.
The opening section, Marulova slava 1501/1521/1971, recalls the composition and first publication of Marko Marulić’s Judita. It includes Tonči Petrasov Marović’s Suprotiva, Mirko Tomasović’s study Marko Marulić Pečenić (1450–1524) and Tonko Maroević’s Marulova plavca nova. Scholarship and creative responses offer complementary approaches to Marulić’s legacy.
Further contributions include Vesna Parun’s Soneti o mojim ljubavima, Zvonimir Mrkonjić’s Iskustvo Oboda and Milan Selaković’s Katarakti. Michelangelo’s verse on the death of Cecchino Bracci appears alongside Daniel Bučan’s anti-aesthetic essay Slika i sudbina.
Ivan Golub concludes the issue with a report on the discovery of an autograph manuscript of Juraj Križanić’s Bibliotheca Schismaticorum Universa. Predominantly literary and scholarly, the issue documents the meeting of historical research and contemporary artistic creation in 1971.
