Grof Monte Kristo, sv. 1-3

Grof Monte Kristo, sv. 1-3

Alexandre Dumas

“The Count of Monte Cristo” is one of Dumas's more famous works, written in 1844 and published in sequels over the next two years.

The main character of the work is Edmond Dantes, a sincere and honest man who believes in the goodness of people, until he is unjustly accused and imprisoned for alleged political activities. The prison changes him over many years and he becomes a completely different man, driven by the desire for revenge against the people who have done him harm. His revenge is the main motive and driving force of the plot, and he does not give up until he has taken revenge on all the people who deserve it. The development of the main character is significant because he goes from being a naive, good and honest man who would not harm anyone, to a vengeful man who hides behind false names and carries out his revenge. At the end of the novel, when he carries out his plan, he again finds within himself a part of the man he once was. He finds peace and happiness in love.
