Poslovno odlučivanje

J. Frank Yates

Why do some people in some companies constantly amaze us with excellent decisions, while in other companies they make mistake after mistake? Do they understand their business better? Or are they simply smarter? Or is it all a matter of luck?

The answer, according to J. Frank Yates, is none of these. The key, rarely recognized, lies in how managers manage the decision-making process—the practice of business decision-making by managers. Drawing on thirty years of research and experience, as well as studies in psychology, economics, statistics, strategy, medicine, and other fields that explain the nature of business decision-making problems, Yates highlights ten basic elements of decision-making that are essential to managing the business decision-making process and, ultimately, better decisions for the company. He covers issues ranging from recognizing whether a decision is necessary at all to ensuring that it is implemented. He points out that good results are achieved if managers ensure that all ten key elements of decision-making are effectively addressed in every decision-making problem a company faces. He also reveals that, on the other hand, chronically bad decisions can be traced back to managers who have approved, or even created, conditions in which at least one of the key elements of decision-making is not properly considered. Business decision-making shows managers at all levels how to shape and direct the activities within their units in the best interests of the company. It also provides recommendations that every manager can easily follow to continuously improve the effectiveness of business decision-making throughout their career.
