Spašavala sam brak, a spasila sebe

Spašavala sam brak, a spasila sebe

Vesna Oršulić

In her candid autobiographical book, Vesna Oršulić describes how, through therapeutic writing and prayer, instead of saving her 20-year-old marriage, she saved herself. From despair and anger to a happy, independent woman.

Author Vesna Oršulić, a family medicine specialist, gestalt psychotherapist, sex counselor, and mother of four, has written a candid autobiographical confession that combines a personal story with elements of self-help literature and spirituality.

The book was created through a four-year process of therapeutic writing. Oršulić openly describes a crisis in a marriage that seemed stable on the surface, but led her to deep despair, anger, and hopelessness. As a practicing believer, she faced disappointment, imbalance in household duties, unresolved expectations, and transgenerational patterns ("mama's son" and "daddy's princess"). Instead of just repairing the relationship, through journaling, prayer, and gestalt therapy, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery, healing childhood wounds, setting boundaries, and separating from her primary family.

The result was unexpected: instead of saving her marriage, she saved herself and became the main character in her own life. The book brings concrete insights about how love is not enough for a successful marriage, about the importance of assertiveness, awareness of irrational beliefs, sexual maturation and integration of what has been learned into everyday life. She writes in a simple, emotional style of diary entries, which makes the text very accessible and authentic.

Oršulić emphasizes that therapeutic writing slows down thoughts, helps to precisely define problems and find their own solutions. The book is intended for everyone – especially women in a similar crisis, but also men who want to better understand their partner relationships. Many describe it as brave, inspiring and therapeutic, and the author has presented it at numerous promotions across Croatia.

This is her third book (after Strasseri and Stories from the Office). The combination of personal testimony, psychotherapeutic tools and spirituality makes it a valuable manual for anyone struggling with marital or personal crises. An ideal read for those looking for an honest, non-idealized story about marriage, self-knowledge and true liberation.
