Original Album Series
Miles Davis’s Original Album Series brings together five late-career albums. Jazz, funk, electronics, film music and hip-hop meet in a collection reflecting his curiosity and freedom of expression.
Original Album Series collects five albums from Miles Davis’s later career: Tutu, Music from Siesta, Amandla, Dingo and Doo-Bop. The set explores a period in which the celebrated trumpeter continued to investigate contemporary production, electronic sounds and rhythms beyond conventional jazz boundaries. His distinctive tone remains the connection between these different musical approaches.
Tutu combines trumpet with programmed rhythms and layered arrangements, with a major contribution from Marcus Miller. The title track and Portia demonstrate how concise melodic phrases can fit within a carefully constructed electric sound. Amandla continues this thread with pieces such as Hannibal and Mr. Pastorius, leaving room for nuanced instrumental dialogue.
Music from Siesta and Dingo represent the collection’s film music. The former brings Davis together with Miller in atmospheric compositions, while the latter features a collaboration with Michel Legrand. These different settings allow the trumpet to convey mood and dramatic expression within arrangements that create vivid musical scenes.
The final album, Doo-Bop, produced by Easy Mo Bee, introduces an encounter with hip-hop and early-nineties rhythms. This collection will appeal to lovers of electric jazz, fusion and musical crossover, as well as listeners wishing to explore Davis’s later discography. Five complete albums allow changes in sound, mood and production to be followed in depth. The set offers an opportunity to experience each project individually and compare it with the others.
