After a scandal costs her a hotel job in Locarno, Julia starts over in another city, where new relationships offer hope but put her future at risk.
Julia works at the reception desk of a prestigious hotel in Locarno. She loves her job, and her relationship with her colleague Marcel gives her something to look forward to. When she is drawn into a scandal through no fault of her own, she loses her position. She leaves for an unfamiliar city, hoping to start again.
In Die Schatten der Vergangenheit, that departure begins a story about the cost of misplaced trust. Julia is used to relying on her judgment of people, a skill she needs every day at the hotel. The people she meets in the new city initially give her reason to hope, but those relationships soon put her in danger. Both her reputation and the chance to rebuild her career are at stake.
Marie Louise Fischer brings together a love story and a struggle for professional independence. Losing her job has consequences far beyond the hotel: other people’s version of events can shape how Julia is seen even after she moves away. The tension comes from her need to rely on others again just when she has every reason to be cautious.
