Crnačka poezija

Crnačka poezija

Black Poetry brings an anthology of folk songs from African peoples and a selection of poetry by Léopold Sédar Senghor, which highlights rhythm, identity, spirituality, and the strength of community.

This edition of Black Poetry, translated by Božo Kukolja, is an anthology based primarily on the folk poetry of various African peoples. The poems reflect the richness of oral tradition – rhythm, repetition, invocation of ancestors, connection with nature and community. They intertwine motifs of work, dance, ritual, love, struggle and collective identity. A significant part of the collection is also dedicated to the poetry of Léopold Sédar Senghor, a Senegalese poet and one of the founders of the négritude movement. His verses bring a combination of traditional African images and modern lyrical expression, emphasizing the dignity, cultural pride and spiritual strength of the black world. Kukolja translates with special attention to rhythm and simplicity, preserving the emotional energy and symbolism that make this poetry unique.
