Mirjana Mikulec’s debut poetry collection presents intimate, mature, and reflective verse, imbued with motifs of transience, inner silences, emotional shadows, and the search for peace and meaning.
The poetry collection Shadows and Silence (2024) marks a striking poetic debut in which the author explores the hidden layers of the human soul, inner turmoil, and quiet states of consciousness. The titular motifs—shadows and silence—serve as the pillars of the entire collection, symbolizing the unspoken and repressed emotions, as well as the space where one finally encounters oneself. Through verses that are minimalist yet highly evocative and rich in imagery, Mirjana Mikulec constructs lyrical landscapes inhabited by memories, the transience of time, and the quest for inner peace. Her poetry does not shy away from darkness and anxiety but embraces them as integral parts of the human experience, transforming nostalgia and loneliness into poetic beauty. The collection is distinguished by a refined sense of rhythm, subtle use of metaphor, and a melodious quality of expression. This work is intended for lovers of mature, intimate, and reflective lyric poetry. Shadows and Silence offers the reader a meditative experience and an invitation to slow down, encouraging them to find answers to fundamental questions about love, loss, and personal meaning within their own silence.
