Papa u Hrvata
Zoran Filipović’s lavish photo-monograph documents the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to Croatia on September 10 and 11, 1994, marking the 900th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Zagreb.
The book The Pope Among Croats (Papa u Hrvata) is a distinguished project by the renowned photographer and war photojournalist Zoran Filipović (known as Zoro). This exceptional photo-monograph is dedicated to the first, historic pastoral visit of Pope John Paul II to Croatia—held on September 10 and 11, 1994, to mark the 900th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Zagreb—offering a powerful and deeply emotional testament to the Holy Father's encounter with the Croatian people at the dawn of peace.
Beyond its superb aesthetic quality—capturing moments of hope, unity, and spiritual renewal—the book holds immense documentary significance thanks to the contributions of its collaborators. It features a foreword by Franjo Tuđman, an afterword by Archbishop Vinko Puljić, and accompanying spiritual text by Friar Bonaventura Duda. The edition is further enriched by the inclusion of the full speeches delivered by the key figures of that era: the Holy Father John Paul II, Franjo Tuđman, and Cardinals Franjo Kuharić and Vinko Puljić.
Recognized and awarded internationally (including the prestigious SAPPI plaque for outstanding print quality), this monograph stands as an enduring historical record, a prized collector's item, and an essential chronicle of an event that profoundly shaped modern Croatian history.
