Crna Dalija (1987.) Jamesa Ellroya je kriminalistički roman inspiriran stvarnim, neriješenim ubojstvom Elizabeth Short 1947. u Los Angelesu. Djelo je prvo u Ellroyevom L.A. kvartetu, poznatom po inspirativnom prikazu grada i složenim zapletima.

Radnja prati dva policajca, Buckyja Bleicherta i Leeja Blancharda, bivše boksače i prijatelje, koji istražuju jezivo ubojstvo mlade žene, prozvane Crnom Dalijom zbog njenog stila i medijske senzacije. Tijelo je pronađeno rasječeno i unakaženo, što pokreće masovnu potragu za ubojicom.

Bucky i Lee, zaljubljeni u istu ženu, Kay Lake, postaju opsjednuti slučajem. Istraga ih vodi kroz mračnu stranu Hollywooda, otkrivajući korupciju u policiji, prostituciju i skrivene veze. Bucky upoznaje Madeleine Sprague, djevojku sličnu Elizabeth, što dodatno komplicira njegov osobni život i istragu. Leejevo ponašanje postaje sve nestabilnije, a otkrića o njegovoj prošlosti i vezi s kriminalcima produbljuju dramu.

Roman istražuje teme opsesije, moralne dileme i korupcije u poslijeratnom Los Angelesu. Ellroy miješa stvarne činjenice s fikcijom, nudeći rješenje ubojstva koje u stvarnosti nije razjašnjeno. Kroz intenzivan stil i složene likove, prikazuje mračnu stranu američkog sna.
