Prikarpatska Galicija: prijevodi s ukrajinskoga

The focus is on the Prykarpattya region (Ivano-Frankivsk, formerly Stanislaviv/Stanislau), a part of Ukrainian Galicia, presented through historical, cultural and social aspects. The book is the result of cooperation between the Zagreb Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature and partner Ukrainian universities. It includes texts that explore:

  • Archaeological and ethnographic heritage of the Carpathians (works on stone shrines and traditions);
  • History of Galicia from the Austro-Hungarian period to the Soviet era, including Jewish heritage and the Holocaust;
  • Literary “Stanislav phenomenon” – from classics such as Mykhailo Kocjubynski to contemporary authors;
  • Ecological and identity themes of mountain regions. The translations (Tetyana Fuderer and associates) emphasize the multi-layeredness of the original, with illustrations and notes. It is part of the “Ucrainiana Croatica” library, which promotes Ukrainian regions to the Croatian audience. The book shows Prykarpattya as a bridge of East-West influences – Ukrainian-Polish-Jewish-Austrian – similar to the multilingual spaces of the former Yugoslavia. It represents an important contribution to Ukrainian studies in Croatia, recalling the shared Galician heritage and resistance to colonialism.
