Božanstvena komedija: Raj

Dante Alighieri

Paradiso is the third and final part of Dante's masterpiece, in which the poet, guided by Beatrice, travels through the nine celestial spheres towards the Empyre and the vision of God, meeting blessed souls and contemplating theological truths.

In the third and most sublime part of the Divine Comedy, Dante, guided by Beatrice, abandons earthly gravity and rises through the nine celestial spheres towards the Empyreya. He meets the souls of great men, saints and thinkers, and his conversations with them develop into profound theological, philosophical and moral meditations on love, justice, providence and the Divine Light. Paradise represents the pinnacle of Dante's genius – a mystical, intellectually demanding and poetically perfect conclusion to one of the greatest works of world literature.

This rare antiquarian edition from 1915 is particularly valuable because it was edited by Iso Kršnjavi, one of the most significant figures in Croatian culture at the turn of the century. Kršnjavi translated the entire Comedy in prose with exceptional philological precision and enriched it with extensive his own commentaries, interpretations and contextual explanations. His translation is considered a cultural event in the Croatian reception of Dante and remains among the most distinguished Croatian translations from the early 20th century.

The Matica Hrvatska edition exudes the seriousness and elegance of its time. For the educated reader seeking an authentic touch with the classics, this copy offers not only the text but also a deep insight into Dante's world that only someone like Kršnjavi – an erudite, aesthete and connoisseur of the Italian Renaissance – could provide. At the end of the book, as an appendix, there are four maps with illustrations of the celestial spheres, made by P. Orlić.
