Roman Stranac (1942.) djelo je francuskog pisca Alberta Camusa i ključni tekst egzistencijalizma i apsurda. Roman je napisan u sažetom, gotovo monotonom stilu, što pojačava osjećaj otuđenosti.

Priča prati Meursaulta, mladog Francuza u Alžiru, čiji ravnodušan odnos prema životu i emocijama odražava Camusovu filozofiju apsurda – ideju da život nema inherentni smisao, a ljudska potraga za značenjem često nailazi na prazninu.

Radnja počinje smrću Meursaultove majke. Njegova emocionalna indiferentnost na njenom pogrebu – ne pokazuje tugu, već primjećuje detalje okoline – postavlja ton romana. Vraća se u Alžir, gdje nastavlja rutinski život, upušta se u ljubavnu vezu s Marie i druži s prijateljem Raymondom. Ključni događaj događa se na plaži, gdje Meursault, pod utjecajem vrućine i napetosti, ubija Arapina bez očitog motiva, što dovodi do njegova uhićenja.

Drugi dio romana fokusiran je na suđenje, gdje Meursaultova ravnodušnost i nesposobnost da izrazi kajanje ili moralnu refleksiju postaju središnja tema. Društvo ga osuđuje ne samo zbog ubojstva, već i zbog njegova odbijanja konformizma i emocionalnih normi. U zatvoru Meursault razmišlja o životu, smrti i apsurdu, prihvaćajući ravnodušnost svemira.
