Filozofija i smrt

Filozofija i smrt

Maja Milčinski

This work, along with various themes and problems of the Asian philosophical and religious schools, tries to show the acceptance of death as a part of life. The tradition of a cultivated relationship with death acts as a medicine and enables a positive re

Behind the dramatic title hides the author's attempt to fundamentally reconstruct one of the key moments of Eastern philosophy and culture, which is the in-depth understanding of death. In her study, she compares various trends in Buddhism, but mostly deals with the Japanese redaction, and in that sense, the Japanese concept of death. At the root of things, she believes, lie the Zen Buddhist terms "sabi" (solitude), "wabi" (aesthetically and morally elevated "sabi") and "yugen" (the intuitive principle by which "sabi" is reached), and there is also " mujo" (cognition of transience). All these concepts together form the basis of the Zen Buddhist aspiration to deliverance, thus a different understanding of life and death from the West. Hence the completely different perception of ritual suicide. The study also takes into account the situation in contemporary Japan.
