The main character is the boy Ivančica, who lives with his mother and grandmother. His family is poor but warm-hearted. Ivančica is a special boy because he has golden hair, which is why he is called "Goldsmith's Little Gold".
The writer in this real-life fairy tale, as in her other stories, is both a teacher and a prophetess. It describes the bat, our distant mammalian relative that flies out at dusk and flies at night.
The blue coat is also Kušec's story about a girl, younger than Donatella, but just as talkative and full of spirit.
