After a sudden lottery win, married couple Fern and Aiden decide to spend a year apart. Is any change as good as a vacation?
When Fern and Aiden win the lottery, their reactions are very different. Fern is pleased to be able to pay off the mortgage and put some savings aside before they start a family, but her husband is planning to travel the world. Fern is not the type of person to backpack on such an adventure, and before she can even figure it out, she finds herself faced with her husband's idea of a year apart.
While Aiden heads off to the Australian outback, Fern decides to spend her gap year in the more peaceful Provence. Set amidst the magnificent French countryside, Château Vernon offers a haven from the hustle and bustle of busy life, and Fern agrees to help in exchange for painting lessons from its owner, the famous but somewhat unhinged painter Nico.
