Gradić gdje je vrijeme stalo

Bohumil Hrabal, češki pisac poznat po svojoj lirskoj groteski i humoru, u svom romanu „Grad u kome je vreme stalo“ evocira detinjstvo u malom gradu Libenu (deo Praga), gde vreme kao da staje u magičnom, ali melanholičnom svetu.

Narator, alter ego pisca, priseća se dvadesetih godina 20. veka: očeve pivare, majčine ljubavi prema životinjama, uličnih avantura i porodičnih tajni, gde se svakodnevica pretvara u bajku punu čuda i tuge.

Roman je niz fragmentarnih slika: dečak se igra u pivarskim baštama, posmatra kraljevski voz, upoznaje ekscentrične likove poput klečećeg ujaka ili bake koja priča priču. Vreme koje je „stalo“ simbolizuje izgubljenu idilu pred industrijalizacijom i ratovima – mali grad je mikrokosmos Evrope, gde se mešaju češka tradicija, jevrejska kultura i nemački uticaji. Hrabalov stil – tok svesti, hiperbola, ljubav prema detaljima – stvara poetsku simfoniju: smeh izaziva suze, a nostalgija grize srce.

Teme su prolaznost detinjstva, snaga priče, sukob idile i stvarnosti. Kao deo Hrabalovog „autobiografskog“ ciklusa (Prvo šišanje, Živela Jugoslavija), roman slavi život kao „mali grad“ u duši, gde vreme ne staje, već se pretvara u umetnost. Remek-delo za ljubitelje češke proze, podseća nas: „Život je san, a san je večnost.“
