Između krajnosti

Muharem Bazdulj

In Between Extremes, Muharem Bazdulj reflects on the space of the former Yugoslavia through three essays on Bosnia, the common past, and contemporary Serbia. With warmth and irony, he reveals the similarities, differences, and paradoxes of our region.

The book Between Extremes is a collection of columns and essays by Muharem Bazdulj, who analytically, but also humorously, observes the political and cultural landscape of the post-Yugoslav space. The work is divided into three parts: “Sarajevo as an Offended Young Woman”, dedicated to contemporary issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina; “The Ghost of Yugoslavia”, in which the author explores how the common space of the former state continues to live on through culture and collective memory; and “Chronicle of the Announced Void”, which deals with current processes in Serbia.

In Bazdulj’s recognizable way, the book combines irony, empathy and intellectual precision. The author observes the region “obliquely”, without ideological prefixes, looking for what connects us, despite the borders. In the texts, we recognize his inclination for cultural and political synthesis and a sense for the nuances of reality in which endemic similarities are concealed by invented differences.

Between Extremes is not just a collection of columns, but a thoughtful testimony to a space that, despite the transitional fractures and political illusions, survives in a common language, humor and experience.
