Vido Latković

A collection of literary-historical and critical essays by Vid Latković on Serbian and Montenegrin literature - from folk epics to Branko Radičević to contemporary themes and writers.

Articles on Literature by Vid Latković is a significant collection of literary-historical and critical works by one of the most distinguished Montenegrin and Serbian literary historians of the 20th century.

The book contains a selection of Latković's essays and studies in which the author writes analytically and lucidly about key phenomena in Serbian and South Slavic literature. He pays special attention to folk literature (heroic epics), the development of literary criticism, and significant writers of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Branko Radičević and other romantics, as well as issues that connect Montenegrin literature with the broader Serbian and Yugoslav context.

Vido Latković (1901–1965), born in Cetinje, received his doctorate on the topic Simo Matavulj in Montenegro, and dedicated his entire life to the study of the literary past, especially Njegoš, folk poetry, and the development of modern literature. His style is clear, documented, and devoid of excessive theoretical difficulty – typical of the best literary historians of the mid-20th century.
