U sjeni ocvale glazbe: nove (muzičke) polemike

Igor Mandić

In his book "In the Shadow of the Rise of Music", the author collected 26 polemical texts that he published in newspapers between 1966 and 1977.

In this book, Mandić, known for his sharp and provocative criticism, addresses topics from musical culture, criticizes the institutionalized, guild-closed and unproductive domestic music scene, and takes issue with established values and authorities. His texts on P. I. Tchaikovsky, whom he labeled the creator of “the most kitsch opus in the history of music,” have particularly resonated. The book (about 193 pages) continues Mandić’s polemical style from previous collections and shares similar themes with his contemporary musical essays From Bach to Cage (also 1977). It is a characteristic example of his critical and controversial approach to culture.
