"Around Russia" is a collection of short stories by Maxim Gorky, published between 1911 and 1917. This collection contains stories that depict the life and spirit of the Russian people during the turmoil of the early 20th century.
The book contains about twenty stories connected into one whole by the main character (the writer Oskar). It is, therefore, a kind of novel that, through intimate confessions, actually talks about the loneliness of the modern intellectual.
The book consists of two longer novellas written in dense, introspective prose that heralds the later author of "Man Without Features." "Unities" is one of the pinnacles of early European modernism and Musil's most intimate work.
The collection of twelve stories was written, in the words of the author, to entertain and educate. There are love affairs, duels, poisoning, scenes from vagabond and gypsy life, irresistibly realistic descriptions of the Lupe underground.
