Marija Suk's poetry is intimate, emotional, connected to the Slavonian plain – a symbol of stability, fertility, but also suffering (war, loss, the everyday burden of a woman). The title "Daughter of the Plain" is an alter ego: a woman deeply rooted in the Pannonian land, motherhood, family, faith and homeland, who finds strength and identity in lyrical images of nature (fields, rivers, sky).
The poems are simple, melancholic, sometimes patriotic and religious – they reflect the sensitivity of the 90s, the transition and war trauma of Slavonia. There is no experimentalism; the style is direct, heartfelt, with an emphasis on emotion and everyday wisdom. The collection is autobiographical – it celebrates the feminine world of a mother, wife and Slavonian woman who "endures" despite everything.
